Approves application for the COPS Hiring Program for one sworn officer to be deployed as a School Resource Officer (SRO) for three years. Grant funding will cover up to 75 percent of the approved entry-level salary and benefits with a minimum 25 percent local cash match.

WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) announced it will be accepting grant applications for FY2013 COPS Hiring Program (CHP), and
WHEREAS, the CHP grant will cover up to 75 percent of the approved entry-level salary and benefits for three years (36 months) for newly hired, full-time sworn officer positions with a minimum 25 percent local cash match and a maximum federal contribution of $125,000 per position over the three-year grant period and the applicant must maintain the positions for one year (12 months), and
WHEREAS, additional consideration will be given for applicants who indicate that the officer positions requested will be deployed as a School Resource Officer (SRO), and
WHEREAS, the deadline to apply is May 22, 2013.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Foley, Alabama, as follows:
