The Sanitation Department has undergone operational changes due to rapid residential growth throughout the City. With new subdivisions and continued infill development, the Residential Sanitation Division faces an increasing workload that requires additional qualified drivers to support expanded ASL garbage and recycling routes. The department is transitioning away from rear-load trucks to automated systems for greater efficiency, and recycling routes are projected to expand to a three-truck operation, while garbage routes will grow from five trucks to six within two years. Additionally, the limb and bulk collection route requires expansion to a five-truck route to meet service demands. To support these needs, two out of five Sanitation Worker slots (grade 30) will be reclassified to two additional Residential Sanitation Driver Operator slots (grade 90).

Following the departure of the Commercial Sanitation Supervisor, the department conducted a review and determined it would be more effective to consolidate oversight under a single leadership role. As such, the Residential Sanitation Supervisor (grade 170) will be reclassified to Sanitation Superintendent (grade 200), responsible for supervising both Residential and Commercial operations. The former Commercial Sanitation Supervisor (grade 170) role will be reclassified to Commercial Sanitation Crew Leader (grade 110) to align with the existing classification on the residential side. To distinguish the two divisions clearly, the title of Sanitation Crew Leader will be amended to Residential Sanitation Crew Leader.
