Title
A Resolution Approving the Andrew James Wetland Reserve Capital Project Phase I
Summary
The Nature Parks Department requests council approval to allocate the funds and develop the phase one of the Andrew James Wetland Reserve. This project includes securing the property with aesthetically nice fencing (installed by Nature Parks staff) and signage including informational as well as an entrance sign. It also includes floating wetland mats for the emergent wetland pond to reduce nutrient levels in the water discharging from the pond. The mats come with installation, pots, plants, delivery and one year of maintenance. The system will also encourage more species diversity within the pond as the root systems will provide habitat for juvenile fish. The project will also include establishing bird habitats throughout the site, including multiple bird houses and wood duck boxes. Finally there will be an osprey platform erected on the site, though a partnership with Riviera Utilities. The capital plan reflects $25,000 for the project, but after contingencies the estimated cost will be $17,000. Future phases will include a parking area, trail, interpretive signage, and pavilion.
