WHEREAS,  the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is accepting applications for a SAFER grant to provide financial assistance to help fire departments increase frontline firefighters, rehire firefighters that have been laid off, retain firefighters facing imminent layoffs, or filling of positions that were vacated through attrition, and
WHEREAS, there is a need to expand our current staff to better support our community, and
WHEREAS, the deadline to apply is August 30, 2013.
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Foley, Alabama, as follows:
SECTION 1:       Approves the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's SAFER Grant Application for $1,082,412 to be used for financial assistance to provide additional staffing for nine (9) full-time firefighters to staff the new fire station on CR20 for a period of 24 months. No matching funds are required.
SECTION 2:      This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption as required by law.
