Title
Street Dept requesting addition funding for unexpected and unbudgeted deteriorating pipe/sink hole repairs.
Summary
The Street Department is requesting additional funding in the amount of $12,111.00 to be added to the Maintenance of Streets and Ditches Account #01-607-8010 for a deteriorating pipe which is causing sink holes at the intersection of Oak/Roosevelt (SE Corner). A 102' section of 48" corrigated pipe has deteriorated to the point of causing sink holes. Considering the problem and the proximity of Griffin Park ball field, Engineering and Public Works recommend the replacement of the affected section of the pipe as soon as possible. The area is used for parking adjacent to the large ball field. The concern is what we cannot see or what is happening beneath the surface. We have already filled in two large sink holes that could have been harmful to vehicles or humans. All work will be performed by the Public Works Department, and Engineered in house. This is not a budgeted expense. It is unexpected, but sufficient funding is needed to make the necessary repairs that will correct this potentially hazardous problem.
