CGI Communications Contract Renewal
Background
In 2012 we entered into a three-year agreement with CGI Communications, a New York-based company that produces free videos of cities that can be placed on websites to attract visitors. The videos are accessible from a button on the bottom of the front page of the city website. The videos were provided free to the city in exchange for allowing CGI to sell advertising to local businesses. This advertising is accessible when visitors viewed the city videos.
These videos for Foley are now dated, and we have been approached by CGI Communications to renew the contract. The prices have changed and a new pricing proposal is attached.
It is the recommendation of the marketing department that we do not renew this contract. Although it is beneficial for the city to have video footage of our city available on the website, the sales arrangement makes it appear that the city is backing this service to local businesses. The marketing department recommends that we contract with a local company to make a video that will introduce our area, and fund this project in the 2016 budget.
