We seek a resolution authorizing the library to continue its working relationships with the primary distributers of bound and eText and eAudio books. Baker & Taylor Books [and their department known as Baker & Taylor Entertainment] are the primary distributers for library books/visual material, and Overdrive is the primary distributer of eBooks and eAudio books. The library will continue to use these as our primary venders for purchases in FY12/13. This enables the library to purchase material at substantial discounts, often with free shipping, and eliminates the need for purchase orders.

WHEREAS, Overdrive, Inc. is a primary source to purchase newly released E-books, and
WHEREAS, Baker & Taylor is one of approximately four primary sources to purchase newly released books for the library, and Recorded Books for newly released audio books, and
WHEREAS, according to the Code of Alabama, 1975 Section 41-16-51(a)(8) the book purchases are exempt from the bid law.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Foley, Alabama, as follows:
SECTION 1: The Library Account No. 01-614-5025 Overdrive, Inc. is declared the primary source for E-book purchases under Account No. 01-614-5025 Audio Visual/E-books as budgeted in the FY2012-13 General Fund Budget.
