Title
APPROVES GOING TO BID ON REPAIRS TO CACTUS CAFE BUILDING
Summary
The Cactus Cafe building is held in an estate. The trustee is in Texas and has not been cooperative with the City in our efforts to ensure that the historic building is not lost to neglect. The City tried to work with the estate for two years with no results. In February of 2012, the City sent notice to the estate of a list of nusiances that the City intended to address if they did not. The notice gave them 45 days to respond and address the nuisances. On the last day of the response time one sibling came in and requested a permit to do the repairs. The permit was approved and was valid for 6 months. During this 6 month permit time, the City tried on many occaisions to seek progress reports from the permit holder but all requests for input went unanswered. The permit recently expired so the City sent notice to the estate of our intent to inspect the building on October 26, 2012 to verify that the nuisances had been addressed. We inspected the building and found that only one nusiance listed in our original violation letter had been addressed. Two had not been addressed at all, and a fourth had some partial work completed.
This request is to;
1) make council aware of the above progress,
and
2) request permission to go to bid to determine the cost of repairs and select a contractor to resolve the nuisances as defined on our original notice letter.
