An Ordinance to relocate the polling place for the 2020 City of Foley Municipal Election. The normal voting place for City of Foley Municipal Elections has been located in the Foley Civic Center on East Laurel Avenue, Foley, AL. 36535. Due to COVID-19 and the ongoing social distancing guidelines, the Mayor and City Council believe it to be in the interest of public health and safety to relocate the 2020 Municipal Election polling place to the Foley Event Center located at 1001 E. Pride Blvd, Foley, AL. 36535, which is a larger facility and provides more parking accommodations.
Body
WHEREAS, the normal municipal polling location is the Foley Civic Center, which has approximately 4,464 square footage of space for the use of a polling place, and
WHEREAS, due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines the Foley Civic Center may not provide enough space for the poll workers, voters, and other necessary people to maintain the recommended social distancing; and
WHEREAS, the Foley Event Center is a 90,000 square foot facility that can provide approximately 27,000 square feet for the use of a polling place as well as 682 paved parking spaces and 13 handicap parking spaces, and
WHEREAS, the Foley Event Center is only 3.8 miles away from the Foley Civic Center, and
WHEREAS, the public will feel more inclined to vote and participate in the municipal election if they feel comfortable that the polling location will allow them to maintain the recommended and safe social distance from others.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Foley City Council as follows:
Section 1. That the recitals above are hereby adopted.
