Title
A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE PAY CLASSIFICATION PLAN IN THE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT
...Summary
Description of Topic: (who, what, where, when, why and how much)
The Parks and Recreation Department has a new position planned for the third quarter, currently classified as a Recreation Assistant (Grade 120). The initial intent of this position was to oversee scheduling for the new gym facility, monitor daily activities and programs, and provide support to existing Athletic Coordinators. Upon further operational review, it has been determined that the needs of the department extend beyond assistant-level support. The new gym facility and related programming will require full coordination and management of new and existing athletic programs, leagues, camps, and special events. These responsibilities include independent program oversight, advanced scheduling and logistics coordination, supervision of staff and volunteers, and direct accountability for program outcomes and community engagement.
Given the expanded scope of responsibility, program management requirements, and supervisory expectations, the position more appropriately aligns with the Athletic Coordinator classification (Grade 130) rather than Recreation Assistant (Grade 120). Reclassifying the position will ensure proper alignment between job duties, authority, and compensation. The proposed reclassification from Grade 120 to Grade 130 is anticipated to be budget neutral due to a recent vacancy. Additionally, converting the position from non-exempt to exempt status will not impact the department’s overtime budget.
