(First Reading) An Ordinance to Reduce the Speed Limit on James Road
Summary
Due to increased traffic and noise along the heavily residential portion of James Road associated with increased growth in population, a need has arised to lower the speed limit adjacent to the Cottages on the Greene subdivision to 25mph from 35mph. Also, the portion of James Road impacted by this proposed reduced speed limit to 25mph is immediately adjacent to Cottages on the Greene, extending approximately 1,380 feet north of the intersection of James Road with County Road 12

WHEREAS, due to increased traffic and noise along the heavily residential portion of James Road associated with increased growth in population, a need has arised to lower the speed limit adjacent to the Cottages on the Greene subdivision to 25mph from 35mph, and
WHEREAS, the portion of James Road impacted by this proposed reduced speed limit to 25mph is immediately adjacent to Cottages on the Greene, extending approximately 1,380 feet north of the intersection of James Road with County Road 12, and
WHEREAS, the City deems it necessary to set standards for design and construction requirements, guidelines, details and standards for the design, development and construction relating to residential, commercial or industrial development within the jurisdiction, and
WHEREAS, it is permissible for the City to reduce the speed limit per Title 32, Article 8, Section 32-5A-173, Code of Alabama and it will provide a consistent speed limit for the citizens' safety.
BE IT ORDAINED that the Foley City Council as follows:
Section 1. Amends Ordinance 391-87 and approves reducing the current speed limit from 35 mph to 25 mph along the portion of James Road that is immediately adjacent to Cottages on the Greene, extending approximately 1,380 feet north of the intersection of James Road with County Road 12.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall become effective upon its publication as required by law.
