A Resolution Approving the Application for a Highway Safety Improvement Program Grant for Foley Beach Express Safety Improvements
Summary
City of Foley Engineering Department requests permission from Council to apply for the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) Grant for Foley Beach Express (FBE) Safety Improvement Project. Res. No. 18-1094 approved a consultant agreement for various citywide roadway safety evaluations. ALDOT is providing the HSIP Program Application to assist with applying for funding for much needed highway safety projects. The grant application is due 1/1/20. If we are approved, there is a 10% funding match of up to $180,000 for Design and Construction phases. We have identified several safety items including shoulder widening, additional signage and pavement markings.

WHEREAS, City of Foley Engineering Department requests permission from council to apply for the Highway Safety Improvement Plan (HSIP) Grant for Foley Beach Express (FBE) Safety Improvement Project, and
WHEREAS, Res. No. 18-1094 approved a consultant agreement for various citywide roadway safety evaluations, and
WHEREAS, ALDOT is providing the HSIP Program Application to assist with applying for funding for much needed highway safety projects with the application due 1/1/20, and
WHEREAS, if we are approved, there is a 10% fund match of up to $180,000, and
WHEREAS, we have identified several safety items on FBE as a needed City project
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Foley, Alabama, as follows:
SECTION 1: Approves the request from City of Foley Engineering Department to apply for the HSIP grant for FBE Safety Improvement Project
SECTION 2: Approves the local matching funds of 10% (up to $180,000) contingent upon grant award.
SECTION 3: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption as required by law.
