Description of Topic: (who, what, where, when, why and how much) Traffic signal upgrades were approved on Foley Beach Express (Now SR 161). ALDOT will be connecting the signals on SR 161 at Miflin Rd and OWA as well as retiming the traffic signals to coordinate/synchronize the signals. ALDOT stated they could provide upgrades to the traffic signals on Miflin Rd at the intersections of OWA, Juniper St, and Pride Blvd. Engineering would like to upgrade and modernize the three intersections on Miflin Rd . To achieve this we would need cellular modem connectivity, controller upgrades at Miflin Rd and Pride Blvd, a PTZ camera at Miflin Rd and Pride Blvd, and an upgrade to the new Currex System at Miflin Rd and OWA to match the current system at Pride Blvd and Juniper St.

WHEREAS, ALDOT has implemented a traffic signal program called Regional Traffic Operations (RTOP) that relies on technology advancements to improve traffic flow and signal operations; and
WHEREAS, Resolution 24-1478 approved traffic signal upgrades on Foley Beach Express (Now SR 161) with the RTOP program under the Special Work Authorization Project (SWA) agreement; and
WHEREAS, ALDOT will be connecting the traffic signals on SR 161 at Miflin Rd and OWA, as well as retiming the traffic lights to coordinate/synchronize the signals; and
WHEREAS, ALDOT can provide upgrades to the traffic signals on Miflin Rd at the intersections of OWA, Juniper St, and Pride Blvd; and
WHEREAS, this project is being funded with restricted gas tax, and
WHEREAS, Engineering is recommending the upgrades and modernizing the three intersections with modem connectivity, controller upgrades at Miflin Rd and Pride Blvd, a PTZ Camera at Miflin Rd and Pride Blvd, and upgrade to the new Currex System at Miflin Rd and OWA to match the current system at Pride Blvd and Juniper St.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Foley, Alabama, as follows:
SECTION 1: Approve the upgrades to the traffic signals on Miflin Rd at the intersections of OWA, Juniper St, and Pride Blvd and amend the budget, appropriating $50,000 to Signal Maintenance Account No# 203-3020-6196. Approves funding these upgrades with restricted gas tax.
SECTION 2: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption as required by law.
