Acceptance of Cellular Phone Bid from Verizon
Summary
DESCRIPTION OF TOPIC: The Police Department would like to request the Council approve the Bid with the Verizon Cell Phone Provider. After a very detailed test and evaluation period it was determined that moving over to this cell service would be of great benefit to the Police Department. This move is based solely on the data driven aspect of this company. Law Enforcement is heading in a data driven world for most of its operations and Verizon is best suited to meet these needs at this time. This request in no way should imply that the present provider is not a good company, but just the opposite, as they have been extremely helpful all the time and met our needs for quite some time. Their data side to cell service is just not where we as a Police Department would need it to push the vast amount of data we now use in Law Enforcement. Another benefit to accepting this bid is the fact we can put smart phones in over 50 percent of our officers hands without the need for any additional funding. The acceptance of this bid will put some of the latest cutting edge technology into officers hands, out in the streets, from the very start. Going with Verizon will also give us immediate interoperbility with all local municipalities and the Baldwin County Sheriffs Department as we are one of the last few to go with Verizon. I have attached some spread sheets showing our monthly operating costs over the past few months and what we anticipate as future costs and our plan on how we will issue this new technology.

WHEREAS, the City of Foley solicited and opened bids for cell phone service for the Police Department, and the bids were as follows:
Verizon Wireless RFP Submitted
SouthernLINC RFP Submitted
AT&T Mobility National Accounts LLC No Response
Motorola No Response
Sprint Business Market Groups No Response
WHEREAS, Verizon Wireless submitted the lowest responsible bid for a three year contract to be renewed annually.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Foley City Council that Verizon Wireless is awarded the low bid for cell phone service for a period no greater than three years to be renewed annually.
