WHEREAS, Wreaths Across America is a national program dedicated to remembering fallen veterans, honoring those who serve, and teaching the next generation the value of freedom; and
WHEREAS, the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort is scheduled to participate in National Wreaths Across America Day on December 19, 2026, marking the beginning of an annual tradition of remembrance at the cemetery; and
WHEREAS, the program brings together volunteers, families, and communities to place wreaths on veterans’ headstones and honor the service and sacrifice of members of the United States Armed Forces; and
WHEREAS, the City of Foley recognizes the importance of honoring military service members and preserving the memory of those who have served our country; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that a donation of $500 to support Wreaths Across America at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort will support this community remembrance effort and its mission to honor veterans.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Foley, Alabama, as follows:
SECTION 1: The City Council hereby approves a donation in the amount of $500 to support Wreaths Across America at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, Alabama, for its 2026 wreath-laying and remembrance program.
SECTION 2: The Mayor and appropriate City staff are hereby authorized to take the necessary actions to process and disburse the approved donation in accordance with applicable City procedures and budgetary requirements.
SECTION 3: The donation shall be paid from an available and appropriate City budget account, subject to confirmation of the funding source and availability of funds.
SECTION 4: This resolution shall become effective upon its adoption by the Foley City Council.
