WHEREAS, the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) has announced the availability of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for Fiscal Year 2014; and
WHEREAS, the City of Foley, in partnership with Riviera Utilities, recently completed a successful CDBG project that rehabilitated the old failing public sewer system in the Aaronville Community where the Foley Housing Authority is located; and
WHEREAS, Professional Engineers at Riviera Utilities have identified another area of the City in need of sewer rehabilitation and are currently preparing preliminary cost estimates, maps, and other data to determine a proposed scope of work; and
WHEREAS, Grant Management, LLC, a grant consulting firm that specializes in the development of competitive CDBG applications, has offered to assist the City and Riviera Utilities in preparing an FY14 grant application at no charge.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Foley, Alabama, as follows:
SECTION 1: Authorize Riviera Utilities and Grant Management, LLC to move forward with preparing an FY14 CDBG application to request funding from ADECA to address City sewer rehabilitation needs.
SECTION 2: Riviera Utilities will be responsible for any required matching funds and the long-term operation and maintenance of the improved facilities, and will bring the project back before the Council for final consideration once cost estimates are finalized.
SECTION 3: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption as required by law.
