Request to construct about 12 miles of mountain biking trails north of Russian Road in Graham Creek Preserve using contracted and rental equipment at a cost of up to $10,000.  Local mountain bikers plan to volunteer to assist with the construction.  There will be an outer beginners loop with interior areas marked for advanced riders.  Access to the trail will be off of Philomene Holmes Blvd just east of the entry to the Preserve.

WHEREAS, Graham Creek Nature Preserve master plan included moutain biking trails to be located in the park area, and

WHEREAS, mountain bike riders have met with City staff to develop up to 12 miles of trails on the 80 acre parcel north of Russian Road in areas without sensitive plant habitats, and

WHEREAS, the trails would include an access point from Philomene Holmes Blvd just east of the entry to the Preserve, and

WHEREAS, the moutain biking trail would be the first in Baldwin County and would include an outer beginner loop with advanced interior loops for a complete trail system, and

WHEREAS, the City of Foley can construct the trails with staff and volunteer labor using rental and contracted equipment at a cost of up to $10,000.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Foley, Alabama, as follows:

SECTION 1:                      Approves the request to construct the moutain biking trail system at Graham Creek Nature Preserve and appropriates up to $10,000 to Capital Projects Account 12-665-7345.

SECTION 2:                     This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption as required by law.
