A market study reveals that Foley's pay rates for these positions are lower than our surrounding cities. Therefore, this resolution adjusts the pay rates for Corrections Officers and Communications Officers to be more in line with other local entities and to provide our Police Department a more competitive edge when recruiting and hiring as well as for better retention of these positions.

WHEREAS, the Police Department is struggling to recruit and/or to retain qualified Corrections Officers and Communications Officers, and
WHEREAS, a current market survey reveals that Foley's pay rates for these positions are lower than our surrounding cities, and
WHEREAS, the Police Department and HR desire to adjust the pay rates for Corrections Officers and Communications Officers to be more in line with other local entities and to provide our Police Department a more competitive edge when recruiting and hiring as well as for better retention of these positions.
WHEREAS, this action would require approximately $3,828 to bring employees up to the minimum of the new pay grades and can be transferred out of the Police Department's Overtime Account and therefore is budget neutral.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Foley, Alabama, as follows:
SECTION 1: Increases the pay grade of Corrections Officer from G-70 to G-90; Increases the pay grade of Corrections/Shift Leader from G-90 to a G-100; Increases the pay grade of Assistant Chief Corrections Officer from a G-100 to a G-110; Increases the pay grade of Chief Corrections Officer from G-110 to G-120 effective Pay Period Beginning August 18, 2020.
SECTION 2: Increases the pay grade of Communications Officer from G-60 to G-80; Increases the pay grade of Communications Shift Leader from G-90 to a G-100; Increases the pay grade of Assistant Communications Supervisor from G-100 to G-110; Increases the pay grade of Communications Supervisor from G-110 to G-120 effective Pay Period Beginning August 18, 2020.
SECTION 3: Authorizes a transfer of funds from the PD Overtime Account to the various PD personnel accounts in the approximate amount of $3,828, with a journal entry to be provided from HR to the Finance Division detailing line item transfer amounts.
SECTION 4: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption as required by law.
