WHEREAS, on June 21, 2004 the Foley City Council unanimously approved moving Alan Goldman's AlaKat, Gully and Gorge Railroad from his home in Montgomery, Alabama to Foley, Alabama, and authorized storage of the exhibit during the time lapse it would take for the City to enter into and complete negotiations with an architect on the design and completion of the building that would house the exhibit, and
WHEREAS, Gatlin Hudson Architects were hired and Carter Construction was awarded the low bid on April 4, 2005 to construct the new building, and
WHEREAS, the new building was dedicated on Saturday, April 14, 2007 with Mr. and Mrs. Alan Goldman in attendance, and
WHEREAS, the world class exhibit is housed in the Foley, Alabama Railroad Museum where thousands of citizens and visitors have viewed the exhibit since it's grand opening, and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Kat Goldman has donated the portrait of her husband, Alan Goldman, as a remembrance and dedication to the man behind the exhibit in order for people to see the man behind the scene, for which part of it was named "Ala" for Alan and "Kat" for his wife, the AlaKat, Gully and Gorge Railroad.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Foley, Alabama, as follows:
SECTION 1: Council graciously accepts the donation of the portrait of Mr. Alan Goldman from Mrs. Kat Goldman, which will be hung in a strategic location of the world class railroad exhibit that was graciously donated for all to see.
SECTION 2: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption as required by law.
