The Foley Fire Department has budgeted funds in the Fire Ad Valorem Fund Capital purchase account in order to improve its inventory of thermal imaging cameras (TIC). In the past, a firefighting TIC could cost as much a $10,000 each. With new technology, smaller handheld TIC have been developed that are more easily deployed by individual firefighters at a fraction of the cost. The new units are now just under $1000 each, and no longer meet the threshold of a capital purchase. We are requesting to transfer $15,000 of the budgeted funds to our Fire Ad Valorem Fund Small Tools operating account in order to purchase 14 TIC and deploy them to all response positions and our Fire Inspectors.

WHEREAS, the Foley Fire Department has budgeted $20,000 in the Fire Ad Valorem Fund Capital account for purchasing thermal imaging cameras, and
WHEREAS, the new thermal imaging cameras needed no longer meet the threshold for capital purchase.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Foley, Alabama, as follows:
SECTION 1: Approves the transfer of funds from Capital Account #200-2021-5100 to Operating Small Tools Account #200-2021-6053 in the amount of $15,000.
SECTION 2: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption as required by law.
