A Resolution Approving the South Baldwin Chamber Foundation's Walk This Way - An 80’s Tribute Parade

 

 

Summary

Approval requested by the South Baldwin Chamber Foundation to hold a parade and after-party (Walk This Way - An 80’s Tribute Parade) Saturday, April 25, 2026 between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. The parade will begin at Foley Kid’s Park, located at the intersection of Alston Street and Verbena Avenue. The route will travel north on Alston Street, turn east onto Violet Avenue, and then head south through the alley, ending at the after-party site in the public parking lot adjacent to the Foley Art Center. They are requesting the road closures beginning Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 4:55 p.m. till 5:30 p.m. of Alston Street, including intersecting streets between Verbena Avenue and Violet Avenue, Violet Avenue between Alston Street and Highway 59 and Verbena Avenue between Alston Street and South Pine Street. They do request that Jessamine Avenue between Highway 59 and Alston Street and the Alleyway behind the Foley Art Center extending to Jessamine Avenue be closed until the end of the event at 10:00PM. The Chamber will start setting up in the public parking lot on Friday, April 24, 2026 from 8AM to 5PM. They will have 10 X 10 tents, live entertainment utilizing a PA system, and port-a-potties.  They are requesting approval for alcohol to be allowed, as this will be a “Bring Your Own Beverage” event.

The Chamber also requests assistance from appropriate City of Foley Departments with an officer for security oversight as well as placement of barricades, use and placement/removal of trash receptacles and clean up and placement of signage and decorations that will be provided by the Chamber.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the South Baldwin Chamber Foundation has requested to hold a parade and after-party (Walk This Way - An 80’s Tribute Parade) Saturday, April 25, 2026 between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. at the public parking lot adjacent to the Foley Art Center and will start setting up in the parking lot on Friday, April 24, 2026 from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., and

 

WHEREAS, the South Baldwin Chamber Foundation has requested assistance from appropriate City of Foley Departments with an officer for security oversight as well as placement of barricades, use and placement/removal of trash receptacles, clean up, placement of signage and decorations that are provided by the South Baldwin Chamber Foundation, and

 

WHEREAS, the South Baldwin Chamber Foundation has requested the street closures of Alston Street, including intersecting streets between Verbena Avenue and Violet Avenue, Violet Avenue between Alston Street and Highway 59 and Verbena Avenue between Alston Street and South Pine Street from 4:55 p.m. -5:00 p.m. Jessamine Avenue between Highway 59 and Alston Street and the Alleyway behind the Foley Art Center extending to Jessamine Avenue be closed until the end of the event at 10:00PM, and

 

WHEREAS, the Chamber Foundation has also requested alcoholic beverages to be allowed at this event as a “Bring Your Own Beverage”.

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Foley, Alabama, as

follows:

 

SECTION 1: Approves the South Baldwin Chamber Foundation’s request to hold a parade and after-party event (Walk This Way - An 80’s Tribute Parade) Saturday, April 25, 2026 between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. and will start setting up in the public parking lot adjacent to the Foley Art Center on Friday, April 24, 2026 from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

 

SECTION 2: Approves assistance from appropriate City of Foley Departments including a police officer from 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. and workers to assist with placement/removal of barricades, use and placement/removal of trash receptacles, clean up, and placement of signage and decorations that are provided by the South Baldwin Chamber Foundation.

 

SECTION 3: Approves allowing of alcoholic beverages as a “Bring Your Own Beverage”

 

SECTION 4: Approves the temporary road closures beginning Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 4:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. With closures of Alston Street, including interesting streets between Verbena Avenue and Violet Avenue, Violet Avenue between Alston Street and Highway 59 and Verbena Avenue between Alston Street and South Pine Street.  Also to include Jessamine Avenue between Highway 59 and Alston Street and the Alleyway behind the Foley Art Center extending to Jessamine Avenue be closed until the end of the event at 10:00PM.

 

SECTION 5: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption as required by law.
