WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Foley has organized and managed the Foley Christmas Parade since 1962, bringing together residents and visitors each year to celebrate the Christmas season and showcase the spirit of the community; and
WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Santa Claus float, featuring Santa Claus riding in his sleigh led by a team of nine reindeer, has become one of the most recognizable and anticipated features of the Foley Christmas Parade and has delighted children and families for generations; and
WHEREAS, following the 2025 Christmas Parade, the Kiwanis Club of Foley determined that the existing reindeer had reached the end of their useful service life and could no longer be safely or effectively used for future parades; and
WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Foley Foundation has researched replacement options and obtained a vendor quotation for the purchase of nine replacement reindeer at a total cost of $8,535.00; and
WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Foley Foundation has requested a contribution from the City of Foley in the amount of $8,535.00 to be used exclusively for the purchase of the nine replacement reindeer for the Kiwanis Santa Claus float; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Foley recognizes the longstanding partnership between the City and the Kiwanis Club of Foley and the importance of supporting community traditions that contribute to the quality of life and holiday experience of residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that providing the requested contribution will assist in preserving and continuing the Foley Christmas Parade and the Kiwanis Santa Claus float as a cherished community tradition; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that this contribution serves a valid and sufficient public purpose.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Foley, Alabama, as follows:
SECTION 1: Approves a contribution in the amount of $8,535.00 to the Kiwanis Club of Foley Foundation for the purchase of nine replacement reindeer for the Kiwanis Santa Claus float used in the Foley Christmas Parade, as stated in the attached memo.
SECTION 2: Approves a budget appropriation to Account #100-5080-6056/Large Decorations in the amount of $8,535.00.
SECTION 3: That this Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
