The equipment at the airport is often damaged by lightning strikes causing numerous repairs throughout the year.  In an attempt to reduce the damage to gates and other equipment, it is our desire to install a lightning protection system.

     WHEREAS, equipment at the Foley Municipal Airport is often damaged by lightning strikes which causes a significant number of repairs throughout the year, and,

     WHEREAS, EMP Defense LLC is the sole source provider for a lightning suppression system that has been used at other city locations for the reduction of damage to city property, and,

     WHEREAS, EMP Defense LLC has provided a quote in the amount of $18,450.00 for this system and would require installation by another vendor, and,

     WHEREAS, the purchase of this equipment was planned in FY24 as a capital purchase in the amount of $25,000 but should have been planned as a capital project.

     NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Foley, Alabama, as follows:

     SECTION 1:     Approves the purchase of the lightning suppression system from EMP Defense LLC in the amount of $18,450.

     SECTION 2:     Transfers $25,000 from capital purchase account 100-1070-5100 and appropriates it to account 400-1070-5110 Air-LSS for the equipment purchase and installation.

     SECTION 2:     This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption as required by law.
