Summary
The Sister Cities Program allows two communities from different countries and cultures to come together in a meaningful exchange of ideas, culture and economics. The interchange helps to foster understanding on an international level and furthers the education of both communities concerning the differences and similarities that are found worldwide. The end result is a better knowledge and understanding of the world outside of the communities and how all regions of the world effect one another.

WHEREAS, The Sister Cities International program fosters a better understanding between communities worldwide and enhances the educational and cultural development of the participating municipalities, and
WHEREAS, The application fee for the City of Foley to join the Sister Cities International program is $440.00, and
WHEREAS, The City of Foley will establish a Committee to research the opportunity to partner with an international city and to engage in an exchange in intellectual and economical opportunities to enhance local knowledge of the broader world around us.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Foley, Alabama, as follows:
SECTION 1: Approves the City of Foley joining the Sister Cities International program and appropriates $440 to account 100-1011-6052.
SECTION 2: Approves the City to lay the foundation of the program through the appointment of a Sister Cities Committee and to seek out communities in which to partner.
SECTION 2: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption as required by law.
