     Whereas Safe Harbor Animal Coalition was established in 2019 as a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals and people in South Baldwin County, and

Whereas the Safe Harbor Animal Coalition is an organization that is a consolidation of three organizations, The Orange Beach Animal Care and Control Program, The Gulf Shores Animal Care and Control Program, and the Foley Animal Care and Control Program, and

Whereas combined, these programs have trapped, neutered and released over 1,000 animals and secured adoptions for 265 animals, and

Whereas Safe Harbor Animal Coalition is an all-volunteer group focused on placing adoptable homeless animals in loving homes, and

Whereas Safe Harbor Animal Coalition has established a robust Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) program in South Baldwin County that spans Foley, Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, and all areas of Unincorporated Baldwin County surrounding these cities, and

Whereas Safe Harbor Animal Coalition has determined that creating a clinic to perform their TNR program is the best way to both expand their program and reduce the per unit cost of Spay/Neuter, and

Whereas Safe Harbor Animal Coalition has secured financial support from members of the community for a donated space, for construction material and labor to build out the space for surgical rooms and for adoption facilities, and for medical support via local veterinarians and students of the Auburn University Veterinary School, and

Whereas Safe Harbor Animal Coalition seeks financial support to fund the cost of the surgical suite(s) equipment from the local governmental entities whose citizens and businesses benefit from their volunteer efforts.

Now Therefore, the City Council of the City Foley as follows:

 

     SECTION 1:     Approves supporting the Safe Harbor Animal Coalition program and recognizes the benefits their efforts create for our community.

 

     SECTION 2:     Approves the funding request  in a dollar for dollar match with the other local governmental agencies benefiting from their efforts up to a total of $35,000.

 

     SECTION 3:     Appropriates funds in an amount up to $35,000 to Account No. 100-1011-6052 Public Relations in support of this action.

 

     SECTION 4:      Encourages our fellow local government agencies to partner with the Safe Harbor Animal Coalition and to financially support their request.

     SECTION 5:     This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption as required by law.
