On July 20, 2020, Resolution 20-1195 approved the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce to use approximately $30,000 of funding from the canceled balloon festival for supplies and labor costs associated with programs to help local businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.  The Chamber believes that a state-wide program in conjunction with the Alabama Restaurant+Hospitality Promise Program is a beneficial use of the funds.  The projected roll-out date is January 2, 2021.

WHEREAS, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Hot Air Balloon Festival was cancelled, and

 

WHEREAS, the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce expended approximately $20,000 of the $50,000 Hot Air Balloon Festival Performance Contract funds for non-recoverable purchases made in preparation of the Hot Air Balloon Festival, and

 

WHEREAS, On July 20, 2020, Council adopted Resolution 20-1195, which approved the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce's request to the use of the remaining $30,000 for supplies and labor costs associated with programs to help local businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, and

 

WHEREAS, the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce now desires to use the $30,000, with time, talent and intellectual experience, to develop a state-wide program in conjunction with the Alabama Restaurant+Hospitality Promise program that ensures safety, health, and excellence in customer service through employee education and certification, and helps guard against COVID-19 by keeping businesses open and keeping visitors and citizens safe.

 

     NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Foley, Alabama, as follows:

 

     SECTION 1:     Approves the use of the Hot Air Balloon Festival Performance Contract funds in the amount of $30,000 for this program through the Alabama Restaurant+Hospitality Promise program.

     SECTION 2:     This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption as required by law.
