A Resolution Requesting Permission to Move Forward with an Emergency Repair to the Post Office Roof
Summary
The City of Foley has received an emergency repair notification from the post office. An inspection has been conducted and 35 roof tears resulting in multiple roof leaks have been discovered. Due to the urgent nature of the repairs, City staff would like to move forward with declaring this repair an emergency as it directly impacts a critical use public building. The Engineering Department requested quotes from multiple contractors, but have only received back one quote from Amerson Roofing. The quote received is for $95,981.00 and we would like to appropriate the funds to include a small contingency for a total of $98,000. The funds were scheduled to be part of the FY25 budget. City staff requests this project be directly awarded to Amerson Roofing for a not to exceed cost of $98,000 and will forgo the bidding process due to the emergency nature of the repair.

WHEREAS, the City of Foley has received an emergency repair notification from the post office and 35 roof tears resulting in multiple roof leaks have been discovered, and
WHEREAS, City staff would like to move forward with declaring this repair an emergency as it directly impacts a critical use public building, and
WHEREAS, Engineering Department requested quotes from multiple contractors, but have only received back one quote from Amerson Roofing ($95,981.00), and
WHEREAS, City staff requests this project be directly awarded to Amerson Roofing for a not to exceed cost of $98,000 (quote + a small contingency) and will forgo the bidding process due to the emergency nature of the repair.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Foley, Alabama, as follows:
SECTION 1: The Council approves to move forward with the emergency repair of the post office roof by awarding the contract to Amerson Roofing for a not to exceed cost of $98,000.
SECTION 2: Council approves the request to increase the FY24 budget in account 400-1020-5100 (Post Office Improvements) for $98,000.
SECTION 2: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption as required by law.
