Body
WHEREAS, during its regular scheduled meeting on December, 15, 2014, Council adopted Resolution 14-0537 Creating a Sports Commission Advisory Board, and
WHEREAS, the Executive Director of Sports Don Staley wishes to amend Resolution 14-0537 to include an additional eleven (11) members to the Advisory Board, and
WHEREAS, the City of Foley has determined that the creation of a Sports Commission Advisory Board will assist City staff in future decisions on events and programs.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Foley, Alabama, as follows:
SECTION 1: Advisory Board Defined: An Advisory Board is a board appointed to advise the Executive Director of Sports in the area of its specialty.
SECTION 2: Board Membership: The board shall consist of twenty (20) members. The Board members are as follows: City of Foley Councilmember Charles Ebert III to serve until the new Council takes office in November and then appointments shall be made every two years thereafter, Executive Director of Sports (non-voting), Economic Development Director, City of Foley Environmental Manager, Recreation Director, Mayor, South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce Representative, City of Foley Leisure Tourism and Marketing Director, Glen Lakes Golf Club Representative, Media Representative, Tanger Representative, a Professional Marketing Representative, a Local Business Professional, a Baldwin County Board of Education Representative, a Hospitality Professional, a College/University Representative, a Riviera Utilities Representative, a South Baldwin Regional Medical Center Representative, a Foley Restaurant Representative and a Vulcan Representative. The members of the board shall serve for four-year terms at the pleasure of the City Council without compensation. Terms shall be aligned with the terms of the elected officials office. The Board must elect its own chairperson and vice-chairperson during the first meeting of every year.
SECTION 3: Meetings: Generally, meetings shall commence on the 3rd Wednesday of January, April, July and October at 4:00 p.m. at Foley City Hall in the Conference Room or Blue Collar. Roberts Rules of Order will be followed in all meetings. Eleven (11) of the nineteen voting members must be present for a quorum. The Board has the option to reschedule its quarterly meeting if necessary to obtain a quorum. Meetings notices shall be posted at least seven days prior to the meeting at City Hall, the Public Library, Community Development, the CVB and on the City's website.
SECTION 4: Attendance Requirements: A member must be present for three (3) of the four (4) meetings.
SECTION 5: Duties: The Advisory Board will support the efforts of the Executive Director of Sports and offer suggestions and recommendations in the following areas:
a. Potential economically impactful sporting events for Foley.
b. Potential quality of life events for Foley.
c. Support for sponsorships and volunteer leads.
d. Promote message locally of the impact Foley Sports Tourism Complex is bringing to Foley.
e. Help facilitate the process of working with the City of Foley or other local organizations by assisting with the coordination of services benficial for events.
f. Support the efforts of the Executive Director to organize, fund and bid for regional and national amateur sports.
g. Provide assistance and recommendations on marketing and promotion campaigns to enhance the ultimate success of sporting events in the City of Foley.
SECTION 6: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption as required by law.
