WHEREAS, Hospitality & Tourism are major industries in the South Baldwin Alabama region, and our economy relies heavily on this industry which welcomes millions of tourists to our area each year who leave behind millions of dollars in business revenue and bolster our economy with significant local, county, and state taxes dollars, and
WHEREAS, the strength of the regional economy is based on a trained and abundant workforce, and
WHEREAS, the City of Foley is partnering with the South Baldwin Regional Workforce Development Authority to plan a workforce development campus in the tri-city area to provide much-needed workforce housing, childcare, training, and transportation.
WHEREAS, the South Baldwin Regional Workforce Development Authority will lead efforts to plan, design, construct and manage a new South Baldwin Workforce Development Campus. This campus is proposed to provide much-needed workforce housing, childcare, training and transportation to support businesses and workforce in the coastal Alabama region; and
WHEREAS, the South Baldwin Regional Workforce Development Authority is requesting the cities of Foley, Gulf Shores, and Orange Beach each appropriate $100,000 to support continued planning efforts for the design and development of this campus.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FOLEY, ALABAMA, WHILE IN REGULAR SESSION ON June 6, 2022, as follows:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Foley does hereby authorize and confirm an appropriation in an amount not to exceed $100,000.00 to the South Baldwin Regional Workforce Development Authority to support planning efforts for the development of the South Baldwin Workforce Development Campus subject to like contributions from the cities of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach; in substantially the form presented to Council this date.
Section 2. Appropriates $100,000 to Account No. 100-6010-6186, Economic Development, and amends the Budget accordingly.
Section 3. Contingent upon a project agreement between South Baldwin Regional Workforce Development Authority and the City of Foley that is acceptable to City Council.
Section 4. That this Resolution shall become effective upon its adoption.
