WHEREAS, the City of Foley has been designated a WWII Heritage City, and,
WHEREAS, it is the City's desire to create a museum which highlights Barin Field and Foley's efforts during WWII, and,
WHEREAS, an effort has begun to obtain artifacts that would be displayed in the museum that would include various models of aircraft used at Barin Field for the training of Navy pilots, and,
WHEREAS, an operational 1941 N3N Navy WWII trainer, which is the oldest trainer aircraft type used at Barin Field to train Navy pilots during WWII, is currently available for purchase for $88,000.
WHEREAS, if purchased, the aircraft will be flown from its location in New York to Foley; therefore, there will be additional costs related to the purchase which includes hiring a pilot who is certified to fly this type of aircraft and insuring the aircraft prior to the flight to Foley.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Foley, Alabama, as follows:
SECTION 1: Approves the purchase of the 1941 N3N Navy WWII trainer for a purchase price of $88,000 and appropriates $100,000 to Account Number 100-5060-5100 Capital Purchase to cover the purchase price and additional expenses associated with the purchase.
SECTION 2: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption as required by law.
